If you want a glimpse of our history, all you have to do is open a school textbook. It’s right there – Samuel de Champlain, Fort Ticonderoga, John Brown, Teddy Roosevelt and more. Lake Champlain Region: Where you can re-live history at Fort Ticonderoga, the Crown Point State Historic Site, and the Penfield Museum. Lake Placid High Peaks Region: Home of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics, the Lake Placid Center for the Arts, as well as John Brown’s farm. Saranac Lake Region: An All-America town where author Robert Louis Stevenson once lived.
